On the morning of August 21, 2019, the Flying Eye Hospital was at Phu Bai International Airport to perform free examination and surgery to patients and training to doctors in Hue. Flying Eye Hospital is the only flying hospital in the world that has a modern airplane model. It was mounted on a third-generation Boeing MD-10, with a length of 55.3m, a height of 17.8 m, and a wingspan length of 50m. Inside, the square is up to 620m2, enough to design a miniature hospital. From the operating room, 3D eye surgery images will be transmitted directly to the training room and transmitted around the world.

In Hue, after performing the examination for more than 120 patients, the Orbis doctors will conduct eye surgery with more than 75 patients with difficult circumstances. In addition, the doctors will conduct training, professional training, modern ophthalmic techniques for doctors in Hue Eye Hospital and Hue Central Hospital.

Flying Eye Hospital is gearing up for the next project in Hue, Vietnam, marking its 10th trip to this beautiful country. The three-week project – due to begin later this month – will be focusing on diabetic retinopathy, retinopathy of prematurity and childhood blindness.

Flying Eye Hospital is the only flying hospital in the world that has a modern airplane model.

The main activities of Flying Eye Hospital include:

Hands-on practical training programs
Examination and practice on models for trainees
Lectures by experts with case studies
Conferences and seminars on ophthalmology
Surgery and laser treatment for patients

The doctors will conduct training, professional training, modern ophthalmic techniques for doctors in Hue Eye Hospital and Hue Central Hospital.

The Flying Eye Hospital has a long history in Vietnam – it first visited Da Nang in 2006 with follow up projects in 2008, 2010, and 2012. It was in Ho Chi Minh in 2009, Hue and Hanoi in 2015 and Binh Dinh and Can Tho in 2017. And it is in Hue in 2019.
