Right on the beach, boasting a lovely terrace, swimming pool, billiards table, full service restaurant & rock n’ roll! Owner Tuan knows how to run a bar. He’s already proved himself with Before & Now in the old town. Competing directly with the likes of the Sailing Club in Nha Trang. He’s looking for a western manager to get the place rolling. The Sleepy Gecko Chill Out Lounge – Cam Nam Islet

A popular spot for Hoi An Expats & visitors who aren’t afraid to stray from the beaten track. Enjoy ice cold beer, internet access, Ipod updates & downloading your digital pics onto CDs. Great bar snacks, games and breath taking views of the sunset from the second level overlooking the river to the old town water front. They also do Bike Tours!

King Kong Bar – Cam Nam Island (Across bridge from Old Town)

King Kong bar is a funky little hole-in-the-wall where things start up at midnight and continue until 7AM. King Kong is walking distance from the Heritage Town. Moto-taxi drivers wait outside King Kong when it’s hopping until the place closes, trolling for fares, so no problem getting back. Beware that this place can attract some local troublemakers so when you leave use your common sense and don’t invite an argument. Just go back to your hotel.

Tam Tam – 110 Nguyen Thai Hoc St

Bar/Restaurant in an old 1920’s style building. The funky atmosphere & music lures tourists & ex-pats upstairs. Tam Tam is perfect for meeting people. Larue Export & Fosters on tap. (Pool, Darts, Games, Loud Music)

Treats – 158 Tran Phu & Tran Hung Dao Streets

Treats has two locations in Hoi An. They both have pool tables & play decent music. Treats is ONLY frequented by the tourists, no ex-pats. Service & food is so-so. The open street seating area attracts more street vendors than most places. They close at 11pm. Treats on Tran Hung Dao is in the hotel district.

Night Town Disco – Ba Trieu Street

Just opened up on 14.12.2006. Night Town is the closest atmosphere to New Phuong Dong you will find in Hoi An. The buzz around town is that they’ve spent a lot on doing up the inside. The music was Ok from what I recall… It’s across the street from Nina Nail & Massage Spa!

Down n’ Dirty in Danang

New Phuong Dong – 20 Dong Da St, Danang

You can easily get a taxi to Danang from Hoi An. ‘Fun Dong’ is a popular ‘techno-discotheque’ for locals, tourists & ex-pats. It’s an evening of loud dance music, the scent of dry ice, ladies & drinks. Not seedy & quite a lot of fun. They even have a website!

Bamboo Bar

On the north side of the Danang river near the estuary opening to the sea. An ex-pat secret hang out in Danang. They serve decent western nosh & they charge VERY fair prices. If you feel like exploring Danang by night, this is a fun stop before hitting ‘Fun Dong’! Just remember to ask for ‘Bamboo Bar for ex-pats on the river’ – not to be confused with a few hotels called Bamboo.

Red Hot – Near New Phuong Dong in Danang

Red Hot is the place you go to keep drinking when everyone vacates New Phuong Dong at midnight. It’s a narrow space full of round high glass tables with stools. They play all kinds of music, Tony Braxton, Celine Dion – the works. Pool table in the back, fast service & they serve red hot fried snacks at 4am. Be careful on the way out, watch your belongings, women should not leave this place alone.
